How To Use Essential Oils At Home

You’ve probably been hearing more and more about essential oils and how useful they can be. The uses of essential oils are endless! From cleaning your home to healing your body, essential oils are versatile and completely natural. We have made our top 10 list of essential oils uses which you can do at the convenience of your own home!

1.Mold Killer
Tea tree oil is the best solution for killing mold in those little cracks and crevices in your shower or tub area. Mix 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil in 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Spritz the affected areas and let dry. Do not wipe off. This should do the trick.

2. Carpet Deodorizer
To make a clean, all-natural carpet deodorizer, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 5-6 drops of essential oil; lavender oil is a good choice for this. Mix the baking soda and oil well; then add to a shaker (a parmesan cheese container works well). Sprinkle all over your carpets and let sit for 15 minutes. The baking soda will absorb funky smells and the oil will freshen and deodorize your carpets. Vacuum as usual.

3. Antibacterial Room Spray

Using essential oils to make your own room spray is a very good idea. Not only are you saving the ozone, but you’re saving money as well! It’s so easy, just mix 10 drops of your favorite essential oil and 1 cup filtered water in a spray bottle. Spritz every time you want a clean fresh scent. You can also spray this on the toilet and let air dry so you get more of the antibacterial component of this mix.

4. Homemade Fabric Freshener

It is always good to have a Fabric Freshener handy at home for laundry! Here is what you need to make your own: 1 empty spray bottle (16 ounces or larger), 1 tablespoon baking soda, 2 cups filtered water, 10 drops of essential oil. Mix the baking soda and essential oil in a small dish. Use a fork to mix. Add this to the spray bottle and top off with 2 cups of water. Gently shake the mixture before using it. Choose your favorite essential oil or try your own combination. You really can’t go wrong! Explore different essential oil scents combination.

5. Sleep-Inducing Scented Sheets

Lavender is a very relaxing, sleep-encouraging scent. Mix 10 drops of lavender oil with 1 cup of filtered water and add this to a spray bottle with a very fine mist option. Spray this mixture on your pillowcase and sheets about 30 minutes before going to bed. This gives the mist time to evaporate so your sheets aren’t moist, but leaves the wonderful lavender smell to lull you into a restful night’s sleep.
6. Mouse Repellant

Fact: Mice hate peppermint! It’s true and can be used to your advantage. Mix 2 teaspoons of peppermint oil with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Spritz this mixture anywhere you see mouse droppings or you think a mouse might have been. The peppermint should deter them and you won’t have to deal with toxic chemicals typically used for killing rodents.
